Telecoms company moves into exciting new building in Bournemouth

4com, a Bournemouth-based telecoms company, has moved into a new office in the 9-storey One Landsdowne Plaza.

One Landsdowne Plaza, next to St Swithuns Roundabout, is an innovative building. Every floor has a different theme, ranging from retro computer games, to music, to travel. Employees are encouraged to contribute ideas for floor themes.

Chairman, Daron Hutt said: "This is another extremely proud day for all of us. Throughout our history we’ve moved offices to facilitate our future growth and Lansdowne Plaza will allow us to realise our ambitious plans for the coming years.

"I wanted our new building to be somewhere that our team look forward to coming to, so having people involved as much as possible was important.

"With so many floors and the team more spread out, it’s important to have a place where people can socialise and meet.  It’s been a fantastic effort by the team to create such an exciting workplace and I’m looking forward to seeing all that we achieve here."

Moving into a new building is the perfect time to assess your current time and attendance system, since it gives you the chance to start afresh if you need to.

Many companies, even in today’s high-tech world, still use weekly paper timesheets to record employee working hours. These have far more downsides than they have advantages.

For example, they are very easy for an unscrupulous employee to fake. If there is no way of monitoring their attendance apart from their own self-reporting, then they can easily put in overtime or prime time shifts that they didn’t actually do.

Even an honest employee could forget exact details and fudge an entry. Inaccurate working hours could put you at risk of breaching the European Working Time Regulations.

Another example is the incredible amount of processing time that timesheets can cost payroll staff. They need to transfer often illegible handwriting individually onto Excel spreadsheets in order to convert it into data they can deal with for payroll. One typo could completely change an employee’s payslip for that month.
