Portsmouth City Council will have to give back £1.6m to the government from its overall budget of £165m this year. To prepare for future cuts, the city council is looking to identify £15m savings immediately, which is likely to mean redundancies. Council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson said: “It would be wrong to rule out job losses this year and further years.”
