Crews from Brockenhurst, Lymington, New Milton, Lyndhurst and Beaulieu were called to the scene shortly after 4am. Firefighters wearing specialist breathing equipment rescued the man and animal from the Tollhouse Inn – formerly known as the Monkey House – on Southampton Road. The special equipment unit from St Marys station in Southampton was also called up but was not needed.
