Bristol engineering design consultancy refurbishes HQ thanks to HSBC

Fenton Holloway, a structural engineering design consultancy, has refurbished its HQ in Bristol thanks to finance from HSBC UK.

The business has been involved in restoration projects for some of the South West’s most iconic structures, including Brunel’s SS Great Britain, Portsmouth’s HMS Victory and Clevedon Pier, and has been in business from its Park Street location since 1995.

As of 2018 Fenton Holloway is 50% owned by its employees through an employee ownership trust.

It used the five-figure funding from HSBC to update the appearance and functionality of its premises for the first time in ten years.

The refurbishments included air-conditioning, shower facilities and a new meeting room have made the area more attractive and created a good base upon which the consultancy can expand.

"We challenge our engineers and technicians with some of the most exciting projects to work on in the UK, but our office had become tired and needed a new lease of life," said Adam Magrill, director and trustee at Fenton Holloway.

He added: "As well as HSBC UK it has been a pleasure to work with Matrix BES Ltd who carried out the building work and BOM IT Solutions."
David Butler, HSBC UK business banking area director for Bristol, added: "Fenton Holloway is an incredibly well-respected business within the engineering and design space, with a lot of experience here in Bristol and nationally.

"We’re delighted to have supported the business as it looked to create a fresh look for its head office and continue to be an attractive place to work in the city."

Fenton Holloway has also designed the 2012 Olympic Basketball Arena, indoor training facilities for four Premier League football clubs and numerous other design projects.

Designing or updating your office premises is the perfect opportunity to install a new time and attendance system, since it enables you to alter the existing wiring if necessary.

Time and Attendance Southern offers a contactless smartcard and biometric clocking terminal with clocking options ranging from smartcard only right up to 3 factor authentication of smartcard, PIN and biometrics. This hardware registers staff entrances and exits as they present their identification, and delivers the information to the central software in real-time. It is a quick and user-friendly process.

The T34xx Series Biometric Fingerprint Reader is designed to give absolute peace of mind that the correct person was present when scanning. Once registered on the fingerprint scanner, the image of the patterns usually found on the fingertip is converted into a code through a secure algorithm, which is then stored on the Time and Attendance system database for future comparison and authentication.
