A move of parliamentary staff to Southampton is causing a major upset. The MPs’ switchboard staff, some of whom have been in the job for more than 20 years, are being asked to move next May. Commons Leader Sir George Young pledged to raise their plight with the officials responsible for the move. He also explained that the House of Commons Commission, which shares oversight of the administration of Parliament, decided to outsource the switchboard operation to Capita to save costs.
