The firm that built the Boscombe surf reef have gone in liquidation. Bournemouth council said the surf reef – damaged and out of action for 18 months – would eventually be repaired by a local company instead of troubled builders ASR Limited. Mark Smith, council director for tourism, said: “The nature of the repairs necessary do not require the specialist skills that ASR had. It’s been made clear no additional taxpayers’ money will be spent enhancing the reef’s performance for surfing.”
