Laser company completes grand new site in Southampton

SPI Lasers UK, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Fiber Lasers, has completed construction of its manufacturing facility in Hedge End, Southampton, increasing manufacturing space and overall footprint. The site was completed in only 6 months.

In addition to the expanded production facility the new site will also include a new mezzanine floor to accommodate new offices, product development and training areas, meeting rooms and a staff canteen.

“This new facility will allow us to not only enhance our level of customer service and support but will also ensure we can cater to our growing global customer base," said Mark Greenwood, CEO of SPI Lasers. "This new state-of-the-art facility has been purposely built to integrate some of the very latest manufacturing technology, ensuring our products are of the highest possible quality.”

SPI Lasers, a wholly owned subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, is a designer and manufacturer of fiber lasers for use in materials processing applications.

A complex new site such as this is certainly cause for celebration, and a great sign of growth and success. However, with such high-quality equipment and facilities, it is vital that you know who is on site at all times.

Many companies still use paper sign-in sheets and visitor books for this purposes. Visitor books are a highly insecure way of storing data, since anyone can read previous entries which generally include personally identifiable information such as name and even car registration number.

These and sign-in sheets also suffer from two disadvantages: firstly bad handwriting wastes unecessary time and effort, and secondly, receptionists tend to be much more insistent about people signing in than they are about signing out when they leave. This can lead to incorrect information during fire drills.

To solve these issues in your growing business, you should look into getting a workplace management system. Here at Time and Attendance Southern, our flagship WinTA.NET software provides total control over the creation of working rules, time and attendance, Job Costing and System Security.

The system holds details of virtually unlimited numbers of employees, including a photograph of each person, if required, and allows for verification of clocking using smart cards or biometrics.
